A LESSON IN ONE-DAY-FESTIVAL-DRESSING FOR MEN

Festival season is almost upon us and with loads more urban one-day festivals springing up, this doesn’t necessarily mean sitting in a field head-to-toe in mud for a weekend. You might get to avoid sleeping under canvas, but what shorter festivals do demand, is a bit more style awareness. At a one or two-day festival – unlike their weekend counterparts – it’s not possible to use festival fatigue as an excuse for looking a bit shabby.

Of course, in the past indie boys have been associated with looking a little on the scruffy side, but I’ve always been less of a skinny jeans and beard man and more of a smart denim and beer guy. So, where do you look for inspiration? G Star Raw is a great urban brand to be found over at Bank. In the men’s range they stock plenty of edgy denim, slick hoodies and cool shirts…that are easy to wear but are interesting enough to get you noticed (ie you look like you’ve made an effort even if dressing was a five-minute job).

For gigs and festivals this summer I’ll be following in the footsteps of 50 Cent at Cannes last year and wearing one of their colourful printed T-Shirts or a polo shirt with a pair of loose, tapered jeans, some black leather trainers and a pair of aviators. If there’s a bit of a breeze I’ll again take my lead from those in the business and throw on one of the dark denim shirts, as seen on Jay-Z earlier this season. If Jay-Z is digging it, than so am I.

So make sure you have some cool kicks, a light jacket (bomber is preferable) for later in the night, a sturdy-but-slick backpack to carry round all your bits n’bobs and a cool pair of shades. Festival-gear sorted.
